(Ira) Monis Brafman was born in the Bronx on December 31, 1934, to Abraham and Mollie (Saltz) Brafman. Monis was a long time resident of Sullivan County, since the age of 13. Monis passed away quietly at the age of 79, at the Hospice by the Sea in Ft. Lauderdale, FL.
Surviving him are eighteen (18) grandchildren, his daughter April Brafman Katz of Livingston, New Jersey, his son’s Ari & (Alison) Brafman of Westfield, New Jersey, Abraham & (Carol) Brafman of Cortland, New York, Ben & (Suzanne) Brafman of Parkland, Florida.
He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Sylvia Ziegler Brafman, his eldest daughter, Andrea Brafman Weiler.
Monis worked tirelessly throughout his life, most notably as a skilled poultry farmer, both in Mongaup Valley, NY and Ein Harod, Israel, and then as a successful businessman in the title insurance industry where he was the founder and CEO of Southern Tier Abstract Corp. He also served several terms as the President of Temple Sholom and was a proud veteran of the Korean War.
Monis Brafman, will be remembered for his honesty, integrity, generosity, and big heart. But most importantly as a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and loyal friend, who enjoyed Sullivan County, Big Band music, and Sylvia’s cooking.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, June 26, 2014, at 12:00 pm at Temple Sholom, 5 E. Dillon Road, Monticello, NY, with the burial to take place at 1:00 pm, at Temple Sholom Cemetery, Southwoods Road, Monticello, NY.
