Beth Green Pierce passed away on September 2, 2014, after a brief battle with cancer. She was 82.
A native of Liberty, NY, Beth was a graduate of the New England Conservatory of Music and Katharine Gibbs School in Boston.
While in Boston, Beth worked for the Boston Celebrity Series Hall; for several years she was an Artist Issue Cataloguer at the Schwann Record Catalogue. In 1958 she moved to Baltimore with her husband Robert O. Pierce, Principal Horn with the Baltimore Symphony and later Director of the Peabody Institute. Beth worked for over 25 years for M. Gordon Woman in the Department of Geography and Environmental Engineering at Johns Hopkins University.
As a volunteer with the Women’s Committee of the Walters Art Gallery, the FANS Board of the Baltimore School for the Arts, and a Board Member of Community Concerts at Second Presbyterian, Beth was actively engaged in the Baltimore music scene. She was the creator and sponsor of the Sylvia Green Vocal Competition, named for her mother, at Peabody and a contributor of the Wagner Tuben, in memory of her father Elwood Green, to the Baltimore Symphony.As a Patron of the Metropolitan Opera for many years, she regularly attended performances throughout the opera season.
Beth is survived by her daughter, Dr. Adrianne E. Pierce of Tarrytown and Hudson, NY.
