Obituary of Hannah Bernstein

MONTICELLO, NY
FEBURARY 26, 1923 ~ JANUARY 17, 2015
Hannah Bernstein, a lifelong area resident and the widow of the late Lou Bernstein the former Village of Monticello Manager, died on Saturday. January 17, 2015, at Catskill Regional Medical Center Harris, NY. She was 91.
Hannah was born in Liberty, NY the daughter of Morris and Ida Weiner Passow, the youngest of four children. She was a stay at home mom until her boys became teenagers and then she went to work as secretary to Helen Kutsher of Kutshers Country Club, and she stayed with Helen for 35 years. After she retired and her husband Lou had passed, she became a volunteer driver for the Office of the Aging, Meals-on-Wheels program, and a volunteer at the Monticello Nutrition site kitchen.
In 1999 she was selected as Sullivan County RSVP Senior of the Year. Hannah was also an officer of the Monticello Seniors Club and a longtime member of RSFP.
She is survived by her sons; Michael Bernstein and his wife Linda of Monticello and Richard Bernstein and his wife Judy of Ithaca, and three grandchildren, Seth, Ilana and Miriam.
Hannah was predeceased by her sisters; Sylvia Reichelsheimer and Bess Pizik, and her brother; Dr. Harry Passow.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, January 19, 2015 at 10am, at the Joseph N. Garlick Funeral Home 388 broadway Monticello. Rabbi Ben Zion Chanowitz will officiate. Burial will be in the New Montefiore Cemetery, Pinelawn, NY
The family will observe shiva on Wednesday, January 21 and Thursday January 22 at Hannah’s home in Monticello from 12 to 8pm.
