Dorothy D. Cohen, a lifelong Monticello resident, passed away at home on Saturday, July 2, 2005, with her loving family and caregivers by her side. She was 86.
Dorothy is survived by her loving husband of 57 years, Joseph G. Cohen at home. Her daughter: Susan Crown and son in law Ian of Stamford CT, and her son: David and daughter in law Michele of Mileses, NY.
Dorothy was born in Plainfield NJ, the daughter of Charles F. and Caroline Rilling Duncan on March 20, 1919. A graduate of Douglass College (which became Rutgers University) with degrees in Library Science and English, she met her husband Joseph in Petersburg Va. where she taught grade school and was a local librarian. She was a founding member of the Temple Sholom Sisterhood and served as the secretary and librarian for the Temple Sholom Religious School in Monticello. For many years, Dorothy worked at the Elegante Shops in Monticello.
Funeral services will be held 1:00 pm, Monday, July 4, 2005 at the Joseph N. Garlick Funeral Home, 386 Broadway, Monticello, NY. Rabbi Ronnie Kehati and Cantor Michael Sturm will officiate. Internment will be at the Temple Sholom Cemetery, Monticello, NY.
