George Kaminsky
South Fallsburg, NY
George Kaminsky, 83, of South Fallsburg, died peacefully at home on July 22, 2005, surrounded by those he loved.
Born and raised in Greenfield Park, NY. George was dedicated to helping others throughout the course of his life. To help his family weather the hardships of the Great Depression he started working at age 12. Over the course of his working life George owned and operated several businesses, including the Great Oil Company in South Fallsburg. It was not unusual for him to leave the comforts of home on a bitter mid-winter night to deliver fuel oil or mend a broken furnace for a customer in distress. During these years George was an active member of the Masons and Lions Clubs. He served as the Lions President and Deputy District Governor for many years helping people in need receive eye and ear care and operations. He was honored by awards too numerous to count.
In his early twenties George met his true love, Doris Myerson. They married and raised a family together. A devoted father, grandfather and uncle, he is survived by: daughter, Karen Pollak and her husband Jeffrey, son Marty Kaminsky and his wife Martha, grandchildren Danielle and Jason Pollak and Leah and David Kaminsky, beloved sister-in-laws Lillian Shabus, Ruth Magid and Charlotte Schwartz and many nieces and nephews.
In the Jewish tradition it is said that the human lifetime is vain unless it is utilized for the purpose of accumulating good deeds, the rewards for which will be reaped in the world to come. George Kaminsky lived a life of great generosity toward all whom crossed his path. His long record of good deeds precedes him on his final journey.
Funeral services will be held at the Joseph N. Garlick Funeral Home Inc. 388 Broadway Monticello, NY on Monday, July 25 at 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow at the Workmen's Circle #281 Cemetery in Glen Wild. The family will be sitting Shiva at the home of Karen and Jeffrey Pollak at 36 Edgewood Place, South Fallsburg.
