Obituary of Anne Proyect
Ann Proyect
Woodridge, NY
Ann Proyect passed away on Monday, May 12, 2008, at the age of 87 in the Skilled Nursing Unit of Catskill Regional Medical Center, Harris, NY.
The Skilled Nursing Unit has been her home during her final years, where she repeatedly has paid tribute to the staff for the expert care and compassion she has received from the staff.
Ann was born and raised in Kansas City, MO and moved to Woodridge, NY, shortly after the end of World War II with her husband, Jacob, who predeceased her.
She was very involved with civic life in Woodridge, serving as an officer of Hadassah during the 1950's as part of life-long commitment to the Jewish state. She was very committed to Jewish values, especially as reflected in the Reform Judaism of Temple Sholom in Monticello, where she was an enthusiastic Congregationalist for over 20 year. She worked closely with fellow Congregationalist and close companion, Victor Gordon in organizing yearly yard sales to benefit the Temple. She was also a journalist who wrote a regular column about Woodridge for local newspapers, including the Sullivan County Democrat at one time.
Ann was well-known for warmth and generosity as well as her sometimes stubborn adherence to the values that sustained her over her lifetime.
She is survived by her son, Louis Proyect of New York, NY, a long-time employee of Columbia University, and her companion, Victor Gordon of Monticello. She was predeceased by her son, Allen and her husband, Jacob.
Funeral services will be held today, May 15, at 1 p.m. in the Temple Sholom, Route 42 and Dillon Rd., Monticello, NY. Rabbi M. Medwin will officiate. Burial will be in the Temple Sholom Cemetery, Southwoods Dr., Monticello.
