Obituary of Leon "Leibel" Kantrowitz

LEON "LEIBEL"KANTROWITZ WOODRIDGE, NY JANUARY 10, 1930-DECEMBER 17, 2008 Leon "Leibel" Kantrowitz, 78, a lifelong resident of Woodridge, died on December, 17, 2008 in Horton Memorial Hospital due to complications from Parkinson's Disease. Leibel was an extraordinarily gifted andtalented mechanic and the owner/operator of Kantrowitz Bros. garage in Woodridge for over 30 years. He was an active member, and former trustee of Congregation Ohave Shalom in Woodridge; a committed member and past master of Fallsburg Masonic Lodge #1122; Former Grand Representative of the Grand Lodge, near Grand Lodge of NY; An honorary lifetime member and past chief of the Woodridge Fire Dept. Automotive repair was Leibel's life profession, and the hallmark of his work was the personal service and care that he provided to all his customers, complemented always by his genuine kindness and his own brand of humor. Leibel was a devoted father to his children, Robert, his wife, Rebecca, their children, Molly and Joshua of Syracuse, NY; Norman of Rock Hill, NY; Wendy, her husband, Michael, their son Ryan of Woodridge, NY. Leibel is also survived by Linda Kantrowitz, of Wurtsboro, NY, mother to Robert, Norman and Wendy; brothers Isaac "Yits" Kantrowitz, his wife Gloria, of Woodridge, NY; William "Velvel" Kantrowitz, his wife Ruth of Long Beach, NY; sister, Sally Beer,her husband Leon, of Brooklyn, NY; sister-in-law, Shirley, widow to brother Sholom Kantrowitz who pre-deceased him in 2005 of Woodridge, NY; nine nieces, one nephew and many dear friends. The family offers our heartfelt thanks to Grace Ampofo, for the exceptional round-the-clock care that she consistently provided "Papa" over the last 2 years. Funeral Services for Leibel will be held today, Thursday, December 18, at 1:00pm at the Congregation Ohave Shalom in Woodridge with Rabbi's I. Goodman and H. Grossman officiating. Burial will follow in the Congregation Ohave Shalom Synagogue Cemetery, in Glen Wild. Contributions in memory of Leibel Kantrowitz may be made to Congregation Ohave Shalom, Woodridge, NY, Hebrew Day School of Sullivan/Ulster County, Kiamesha Lake, NY or Syracuse Hebrew Day School, located on Thompson road in Syracuse, NY. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Joseph N. Garlick Funeral Home of Monticello.
