Wilma Erlichson (nee Rappel), a resident of Pine Bush, NY in the town of Crawford, passed away suddenly, yet peacefully, at home on Tuesday afternoon, March 31, 2009. She was 61 years old. The daughter of the late Samuel Rappel and Helen Rappel, she was born April 8, 1947 in Long Beach, NY.
Wilma is survived by her husband Michel Erlichson at home, her mother Helen Rappel, also at home, her daughter Jane with her husband Fredrick Sheeley, and their 3 children (monkeys) James, Tyler and Jessica, all of Pine Bush. She is also survived by a sister Judith Bring, along with her children Lori Olbrys and Kenneth Bring, and a brother Stephen Rappel with his wife Bonnie, and their children, Michael, Morgan, Jamie, and Samantha. She is also survived by her sister-in-law Helene with her husband Peter Kloehn, and brother-in-law Jacob Erlichson, with his children, Eric and Vanessa. She also leaves behind her two dogs, Toby and Lucy, and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and beloved friends.
Wilma was a retired New York City School Teacher, having taught in Brooklyn at P.S. 243 for 36 years. She earned numerous educational and administrative degrees and certificates. She was an extraordinarily passionate woman, supporting numerous animal charities, and rescuing many dogs from shelters. She cherished those around her, and loved all those that she leaves behind. She moved to Pine Bush almost 5 years ago, and never looked back. She fell in love with her town and had never been happier than these past 5 years, expressing this sentiment to everyone she spoke with.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, April 2nd at 10 AM at the William M. Gagan Funeral Home, 1525 Burlingham Road, in Pine Bush, NY. Burial will follow at the Temple Sinai Cemetery in Circleville with a family gathering to follow.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that a memorial contribution be made in Wilma's name to any animal charity of their choosing.
