Nat Kagan, a lifelong resident of Woodridge, New York passed away on Sunday, September 13, 2009, after a long battle with Parkinson 's disease. He was 77 years old.
Nat was born in Monticello, New York and was the son of the late Samuel and Birdie Benson Kagan.
Nat owned and operated Kagan's Meat and Poultry. He was a member and past Director of the Woodridge Kiwanis, member of Congregation Ohave Sholom, Sullivan County Republican Party, Butcher's Union, Jewish War Veterans and a past member of the Lions Club and the Woodridge Fire Department.
Nat's many years of Public and Community Service included Supervisor of the Town of Fallsburg, Committeeman for the Fallsburg Republican Party for over 50 years, Mayor of the Village of Woodridge as well as Trustee of the Village of Woodridge and a founding member of the Woodridge Youth Commission.
Survivors include his daughter Lisa and her husband Shawn Wiles, his son Joseph Porcellini and his wife Nancy, his sister Pookie Novogrodsky and nieces Jodi (Alan) Goodman and Lauree Novogrodsky, Rosalie Kagan, his former wife, his grandchildren Brody and Samantha Wiles and Sara and Louis Porcellini and several nieces and nephews among them, Julie and Jonathan Goodman. He was predeceased by his brother Harold Kagan.
Nat will always be remembered for his loyalty and dedication to his family. His children and grandchildren brought him immense happiness. Nat loved the Village of Woodridge to which he proudly devoted his time and service.
The family would like to thank the entire Administrative and nursing staff at the Skilled Nursing Unit at Catskill Regional Hospital and give special thanks to Janet Gibson for the loving care she gave to Nat during his illness.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, September 14th, at 1:00 p.m. at the Joseph N. Garlick Funeral Home, 388 Broadway, Monticello, NY. Rabbi Marvin Goldman will officiate. Burial will be at Workman's Circle in Glen Wild. The family will be sitting Shiva at the home of Lisa and Shawn Wiles, 17 Cantor Avenue, Woodridge, NY.
Donations in his memory can be made to the Parkinson's Foundation or the Skilled Nursing Unit at Catskill Regional Hospital.
