Obituary of Louis Steinkol

Louis Steinkol, 91 Ellenville, NY October 28, 1918 - September 13, 2010 On September 13, 2010, long time Ellenville resident, Louis Steinkol passed away peacefully at the age of 91. Louis was born October 28, 1918 in Brooklyn, NY, to Isaac Steinkol & Anna Weinbaum Steinkol. His mom ran The Mountain Flower House, in Ferndale, NY. Louis moved to Ellenville to attend school, beginning in the one room schoolhouse located on route 209 on what used to be the Nevele Country Club's golf course. Louis and his wife Harriet spent over 55 years running the Steinkol's Poultry Farm on Briggs Highway, where they sold eggs to the community and provided eggs to the local hotels throughout the Catskills. Besides raising chickens, they raised two daughters, Ava & Ilene. Louis has been enjoying his retirement in Fort Myers, Florida, with his wife Harriet of 61 years and their daughters; Ava Roeder and her husband, Michael & Ilene Whitesman and her husband, Guy; as well as their three grandchildren: Alison, Joey and Jena. Gravesides services will be held Wednesday, September 15, 2010 at 11a.m. at the Anshe Tzaydik Cemetery, located off of Route 209 in Wawarsing, NY. Rabbi Moshe Frank will officiate.
