Jean Kunis, 96, a resident of South Fallsburg, for over 70 years, passed away peacefully in her sleep on October 13, 2011.
The daughter of the late Meyer Belt and Annie Trinkman Belt, Jean was born on April 20, 1915 in Springfield, MA. She was predeceased by her Husband, Alfred, her Sister Shirley and Brothers Sam & William.
Jean spent her entire adult life in South Fallsburg where she and her husband, whom she met while vacationing at the Nemerson Hotel in 1937, owned and operated Alter's Luncheonette, during the heyday of the Catskill Mountains. In her later years she served as the local ticket agent for the Short Line Bus Company. Jean was a very hard worker, and along with her husband, set a positive example for their sons and instilled in them positive values and work ethic. She loved the community in which she lived and the many close friends that she regularly socialized with. During her life Jean volunteered for many charitable organizations. She was a member of the South Fallsburg Hebrew Association, Sisterhood, Hadassah, Fallsburg PTA and Senior Citizens Club. She was an avid knitter who loved sharing the fruits of her labor and got a tremendous amount of pleasure making sweaters and outfits for all of her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and friends' children.
She married her late husband, Alfred, in 1939. Her life was all about family, being a loving and caring daughter, wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. Her love, devotion and sacrifice for family was unconditional
Jean leaves behind her two sons, Steven Kunis (Janice) of New City, NY and Bob Kunis (Judy) of Monticello, NY. She will also be missed by her five grandchildren; Scott Kunis of New City, NY, Allison Kunis of New York, NY, Darin Kunis (Beth) of Goshen, NY ,Brent Kunis (Liza)of Goshen, NY and Jordan Kunis of Monticello, NY. She also leaves behind five loving great grandchildren, Taylor, Ava, Sarah, Jake and Sophie Kunis, all of Goshen, NY.
Her final years were spent at the Sullivan County Adult Care Center in Liberty where she received superior care and attention. A special thanks to all the nurses and aides on Unit 1 who worked to see that she was always attended to and comfortable.
Funeral services will take place on Sunday, October 16, 2011 at 12:00PM at the Joseph N. Garlick Funeral Home, 388 Broadway, Monticello, NY. Memorial contributions may be made in her name to the South Fallsburg Hebrew Association, South Fallsburg, NY 12779. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Joseph N. Garlick Funeral Home of Monticello.
