Ethel Davis died peacefully in her sleep on August 31, 2010. She was 94 years old. Born in Newark, New Jersey on March 29, 1916 to Jacob and Yetta Kell, she lived in Brooklyn, New York, for most of her life. She married Meyer Davis on December 10, 1944, and moved with him to South Fallsburg in 1982. Ethel worked as a medical secretary in Brooklyn for many years, retiring only due to illness. In Sullivan County she volunteered at what is now Catskill Regional Medical Center, helping with those suffering with Alzheimer's disease, and in the last years of her life, she herself fell victim to dementia.
She is survived by her brother, Joseph Kell, in Boca Raton, Florida; her daughters Ruth Louison and her husband, Ernie, of Brooklyn, and Helen Hawkes and her husband Michael of New Hampton; three grandchildren: Barbara Jenney of Birmingham, England, Elaine Boland of Philadelphia, and Gregory Boland of New Hampton. She is also survived by four great-grandchildren: Heather, Amanda, Christopher and Megan Jenney, and the caretakers whose love, tender care and devotion helped her live her last years in dignity: Loretta Singh, Christina Lopez, Lorraine Dean, Donna Jones and Shirley Dean. Her husband, Meyer, predeceased her.
The family would like to thank Hospice of Orange and Sullivan Counties for their steady support and help to her caretakers over the last few months. Memorial contributions can be made to Hospice of Orange and Sullivan Counties or the charity of your choice.
